Education for Climate Coalition survey: 576 replies received - thank you!

On 10 December 2020, the European Commission opened an Education for Climate Coalition survey.

The survey invited the education community across the European Union (EU) to support the work of the Coalition by expressing your interest to contribute to achieving a climate neutral, sustainably developed Union by 2050.

Between 10 December 2020 and 31 January 2021, you made 576 contributions – thank you!

This response highlights the commitment of the European education community, including a significant number of students, teachers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to realising a fair, green societal transition in line with the vision outlined within the European Green Deal and the proposal on achieving the European Education Area by 2025.

The highest response rates came from:

  • Romania – with 212 pledges
  • Germany – with 51 pledges
  • Bulgaria – with 48 pledges
  • Italy – with 35 pledges
  • Netherlands – with 28 pledges

The work of contributing projects focuses on:

  • promoting sustainability awareness and climate ambassadorship
  • reducing carbon footprints
  • air quality
  • waste, pollution, recycling and the protection of the environment
  • climate change and energy efficiency

The survey has made an important contribution to the work of the Coalition by identifying existing initiatives and networks at the local, regional and national levels.

This information will prove essential to supporting the development of national Education for Climate Coalitions throughout 2021 and beyond. Stay tuned for more!
