Job description


Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties:
• Translate, mostly without revision, texts submitted mainly by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Commission
on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and other entities as required.
• Revise translations covering subjects dealt with by the above-mentioned bodies and organizations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency in scientific, technical and legal matters.
• Meet the established workload and quality standards.
• Develop new terminology for use where none exists in the target language; carry out linguistic research and participate in the preparation of online terminology records and glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools.
• Coach and assist junior translators, give them feedback on their work and brief them on the procedures and practices of the Section, terminology and a number of subjects, as required.
• Participate in drafting or consistency groups.
• Supervise the work of small groups of translators during meetings by acting as focal point for meetings, including during early and night shifts.
• Perform quality control (QC) of outsourced documents.
• Perform other work related duties as required.
