About the workshop

In view of the first application of the Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure (MIP), DG ECFIN has intensified work on different aspects related to internal as well as external macro-economic imbalances. As part of this process, it is planned to take stock of existing methodologies and tools through a series of seminar/workshops bringing together member states' representatives (under the LIME technical sub-committee of the EPC) as well as experts from other international Institutions and academia.

The third workshop in this series, focusing on the assessment of external sustainability, will be held on 6 and 7 March in Brussels.

The workshop will comprise three sessions, the first on methodologies and tools, the second on drivers of external imbalances, and a third one on the role of surplus countries and catching-up effects.
