05/07/2012 : Conference on "Economic Governance in the EU/euro area – What lessons for Poland?"

Meeting of Directors of Communication on EMU and the euro (DirCom) and the EuroTeam network on 5-6 July in Warsaw

On 5 July 2012, a conference on “Economic Governance in the EU/euro area – What lessons for Poland?" was held in Warsaw, jointly organized by the Bureau of Government Plenipotentiary for Euro Adoption at the Polish Ministry of Finance (MoF) and DG ECFIN. It was attended by approximately 100 participants ( EuroTeam/DirCom members, participants from the Polish Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Poland, other EU institutions and a few journalists). Speakers included Jacek Dominik, Undersecretary of State, and Government Plenipotentiary for Euro Adoption in Poland, MoF and Andrzej Raczko, NBP's Board Plenipotentiary for Euro Adoption, Member of the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland. The topic of the conference was clearly topical with the on-going decisions taken on reforming the EU economic governance framework. The debate was interesting and lively, the issue was discussed from an EU as well as a Polish perspective and there were a number of exchanges with the audience.

Back-to-back with the conference, the meeting of the Directors of Communication of the Ministries of Finance and Central Banks of the 27 EU Member States (DirCom), and the EuroTeam network was held on 6  July. These meetings are organized twice a year by R5. At this meeting, EU economic governance was discussed from a communication point of view. Colleagues of the Polish Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Poland gave an update on their euro information activities and a speaker from the European Central Bank provided information on the tools and mechanisms the ECB has been using since the start of the financial turmoil in the euro area.
