140 humanitarian experts and 320 local staff - placed in 44 field offices across 39 countries.
One of the European Union's key strengths in responding to humanitarian emergencies is its global network of regional and country
offices, staffed by humanitarian experts and national support staff. In fact, the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) has more people working permenantly in the field (∼460) than in Brussels (∼340).
ECHO's field offices ensure vital contact and coordination with humanitarian organisations in the field. Furthermore, the worldwide network of humanitarian experts provide up-to-date information and analysis on needs in a given country or region which feed into our emergency response plans.
