Paind Khan, a refugee from Afghanistan who now lives in Greece, has been perfecting his biryani for months. It will be the first dish he cooks for his wife when they are reunited in Germany. The dish takes three hours to cook, plenty of garlic, and a whole lot of a dedication to get it just right.
With support from the European Union, the International Rescue Committee has equipped refugees temporarily living at Eleonas accommodation site in Athens, Greece, with kitchenettes with hobs and ovens. The kitchenettes allow refugees to cook their own food and give them a sense of independence.
