In 2019, Bolivia lost more than 6 million hectares of forest and grassland to forest fires.
When Bolivia requested help with its fires, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism helped mobilise a specialised French firefighting team to assist Bolivian authorities in fighting the fires.
Lieutenant-Colonel Rodolphe and his team packed their bags and went to help. “We are here first of all to save humanity, but humanity is not only the people,” he says.
The EU’s response protected houses, communities and several national parks from the fire.
