Ukraine is now in its fourth year of conflict. Thousands of civilians have lost their lives and 3.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The most vulnerable of which are the more than 200 000 children who live and learn under the constant threat of shelling in the areas along the 'contact line'.
Over 700 schools have been damaged by fighting since the conflict began and many pupils have to learn in schools reinforced with sandbags.
The European Commission's Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) has provided over €4.1 million to assist UNICEF in addressing the educational and health needs of thousands of children.
