After 10 years of conflict, Syria’s water infrastructure is badly damaged. During the coronavirus pandemic, access to clean water is of utmost importance.
That is why in rural Damascus we are giving vulnerable families access to sufficient water to cover their daily needs. With EU humanitarian support, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has repaired water networks as well as damaged homes and schools so that families and children impacted by war can live and learn in safety and dignity.
The EU-DRC partnership has helped more than 150,000 Syrians with shelter, water, education and protection assistance. The EU and its Member States are leading donors of international aid to conflict-affected Syrians.
Since the start of the crisis in 2011, more than €20 billion has been mobilised to support the most vulnerable. Some 12 million Syrians remain displaced, within Syria or in neighbouring countries.
