Due to extreme poverty and a crumbling health care system, DRC’s population is highly vulnerable to acute malnutrition: 4.2 million children in Democratic Republic Congo (DRC) suffer from acute malnutrition, a silent crisis of staggering proportions.
In a country almost two thirds the size of western Europe, it takes a 24-hour drive along deserted roads from the capital Kinshasa to reach the town Kahemba. It is here that EU humanitarian aid has allowed Action Against Hunger (ACF) to deploy an emergency team that, in true firefighting spirit, is saving children from the agony of death by malnutrition.
