The conflict in eastern Ukraine enters its seventh year. It has long dropped off the world’s radar, but 3.4 million people are still in need of humanitarian aid – half a million are children.
Thanks to EU funding, humanitarian partner organisations like UNICEF ensure that children have access to safe quality education despite the ongoing hostilities. They provide equipment, learning materials and help repair damaged school buildings to make schools places where children feel safe again and learn the skills they need to thrive.
We visited the schools in Eastern Ukraine before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. At the moment, the schools in Ukraine remain closed.
