Behind the figures and percentages on the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are people whose lives are broken apart by the epidemic. In addition to the international effort to contain the outbreak and prevent it from spreading further, humanitarian assistance is also directed at alleviating the human suffering left in the trail of the epidemic. This outbreak has affected a high number of children who are particularly vulnerable to the virus.
Here is how, with financial support from EU humanitarian aid, UNICEF is helping children affected by the epidemic. Children receive with psychosocial care, food and material assistance, support to reintegrate into school, while also given the comfort of knowing that there is someone caring for them.
