On a yearly basis, Roche organises an internal Innovation summit, to inspire, connect, develop and advance their organisation. This year's summit theme is about Transforming the Healthcare Experience Together.
A select number of SME Instrument companies will be encouraged to attend the Roche Innovation summit where they will have the opportunity to pitch and present their business cases and ideas, network with Roche product managers, research and technology scouts, procurement representatives, venture managers and meet with affiliated companies.
Small and medium-sized businesses that seek funding under the SME Instrument can receive from € 0.5 to € 2.5 million from the EU to co-finance up to 70 % of their innovation project.
The largest number of proposals was submitted by Spanish applicants (213) followed by Italian (154), French (94), German and British (both 89) applicants. Over 90 % of applicants were single SMEs and most proposals came from ICT, health and technology companies.
Examples of the projects selected include a 3D printer for food; an innovative treatment for breast cancer; a virtual reality and augmented reality headset capable of human eye resolution; a multi-active cardboard packaging that extends the shelf life of vegetables by 40% and a new type of biodegradable bioplastic.
Audax® are worldwide leaders in developing Body Worn Video (BWV) technology, a unique, wearable and non-intrusive biometric body worn video system. Body worn video is a video recording system that can be worn on uniforms, typically used by law enforcement to record their interactions with the public for transparency or gather video evidence at crime scenes. It can live stream video of suspects and vehicles with high accuracy and transmit the data to central services via 4G and WiFi. The encrypted recordings can then be used as admissible evidence.
In addition to the pitching, the companies had the opportunity to network with top-class VCs business angels and other professionals from Level 39, Beringea, Ixion, Nauta Capital, Oxford Capital Ventures, Bizfly, Euroclear, Mawsonia, Anthemis, Accelerated Ventures, Finch Capital, QVentures and other organisations. The event was organised in collaboration with Innovate UK.
Pulverizadores Fede is a technology leader in the production of agricultural crop sprayers and specialist technology for vertical crops found, for example, in orchards, vineyards and olive plantations. The sprayers are remote-controlled through an Android tablet (smart phone) and fitted with ultrasound sensors that can scan crop dimensions.
