On 15 and 16 November a selection of more than 70 high-potential EIC SME Instrument-funded companies came with us to Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona for networking, brokerage and exclusive pitching for SME Instrument beneficiaries.
9 of the most innovative SMEI beneficiaries from all over Europe had the chance to present their business ideas on sustainability in front of investors and interested spectators. The Jury, consisting of IBM, Caixa Bank, NEXT Corporate Finance, and ourselves at SME Instrument rated the companies pitches based on the readiness of the product for the market, the solidity of their business plan and the innovativeness of their idea among other criteria.
EHTech, a company that recycles warm waste water to create sustainable and cheap energy won the pitching contest. The 2nd place went to SpeakUp! an app fighting bullying amongst youngsters. WeTaxi, a taxi sharing service, received the 3rd place.
Smart City World Expo is the world’s leading event for smart cities projects in the context of urban development. More than 17.000 professional visitors are expected, with over 600 exhibitors, along with high level representatives from more than 700 cities and over 400 experts and thought leaders.
With the EIC SME Instrument Business Acceleration Services we took 70 companies to the event and prepared a fruitful programme with lots of time for finding business partners: a networking event with business representatives, Pre-arranged one-on-one meetings at the Smart City Brokerage Event organised in cooperation with the local Enterprise Europe Network partner, ACCIO, bilateral meetings for discussion of collaborations and business opportunities, and the pitching contest to Business Partners and Investors.
As part of the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot Business acceleration services, the EIC SME Instrument is taking companies to international trade fairs and events to help their business grow, gain visibility and make strategic contacts.
