71 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 17 countries have been selected for funding in the pilot run of the Horizon 2020 SME Innovation Associate programme.
Spanish SMEs were the most successful in this pilot programme with 14 proposals being funded (out of 30), followed by Netherlands (10) and the United Kingdom(9).
In total, selected SMEs will receive over € 7 million to fund PHD recruitment for their innovation project.
The call for proposals closed at the end of June with almost 200 proposals. More than half of them were rated above treshold, with 38 retained on the reserve list.
Horizon 2020 SME Innovation Associate aims to help SMEs and startups to find the most highly-skilled and experienced researchers on the job market by offering an individual grant that covers the costs of the first year of employment of a non-national researcher in the period between September 2017 and August 2018.
