BIO International Convention is a four day event organised this year in San Diego from the 19th to the 22nd of June. This event is the intersection for all biotech sectors, small and large companies, and leaders from around the world who are interested in advancing science through collaboration.
Some of the highlights of the mission were:
More than 460 business meetings involving EU-SME Instrument participants and local or international business counterparts as well as multiplier organisations such as the European American Enterprise Council and the Southern California Biomedical Council;
The traditional European Commission participation at BIO was complemented for the first time by the OTF Pavilion dedicated solely to highly innovative European SMEs; allowing for a strong representation of the European Union at this major event;
On top of the multiple education sessions organized on the European Commission’s Pavilion, a pitching session was held to help the SMEs promote their business and services to local counterparts. This session was introduced by Pierre Meulien, Innovative Medicines Initiative;
The EU Welcome Reception, offered SMEs with a considerable networking opportunity. Introduced by Arnd Hoeveler, Head Of Unit, DG Research, European Commission, this session was held on both European Pavilions simultaneously;
As part of the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument, the Overseas Trade Fairs Programme organises the participation of SME Instrument funded companies in 15 international trade fairs outside the European Union, to help them follow their ambitious plans to scale-up on the global market.
