From 26 to 28 February, 79 high-potential SME Instrument companies participated in Mobile World Congress (MWC) and 4YFN in Barcelona (Spain) thanks to the EIC Business acceleration services in collaboration with EEN-Acció. Twelve of them pitched their business ideas on mobile solutions to repsresentatives of big companies at a bespoke pitching contest. Lumen Research Limited, a company that uses eye tracking technology to optimize creative development and cross-channel media placement of advertising, won the pitching contest. The 2nd place went to Secure Secure Ltd, that presented a system to detect cybersecurity vulnerabilities. The 3rd place was given to SAT4M2M GmbH, for their system for industrial IoT data communication.
Acconding to Mike Follet, winner of the first price and managing director of Lumen Research Limited: "EIC SME Instrument Business Acceleration Services had a great impact in Lumen’s visibility at the MWC. We look forward to follow-up on many business contacts that emerged from our participation".
Twelve SME Instrument-funded companies pitched their business ideas on mobile solutions in front of Finance and Business partners and a wide interested audience. The Pitching Jury included representatives of Bosch Venture Capital, Caixa Capital Risc, Digital Attraxion, Dynax Ventures, Faraday Ventures, Banco Sabadell, Hexagon, IBM, Inveready, Lanta Capital, Mastercard, Oxford Global Ventures and Telefonica. They rated the companies’ pitches based on several criteria, including respective degree of innovation and solidity of their business plan.
Companies participating enjoyed a fruitful programme with dedicated activities to promote the matchmaking with business and finance partners. These activities included a networking event with business and finance representatives, pre-arranged one-to-one meetings in the MWC Brokerage Event - organized in cooperation with the local Enterprise Europe Network partner, ACCIÓ – and the pitching contest, announced in the programme as the “EIC SME Instrument Champions” (Presentation of Europe's Next Innovation Leaders).
The MWC is the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry. More than 108,000 professional visitors have attended, with over 2,300 exhibitors representing more than 208 countries. MWC have brought together executives representing mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the world.

As part of the European Innovation Council (EIC) SME Instrument, the Business Acceleration Services are also taking companies to many other events and international trade fairs. These activities help SME Instrument companies to grow their business, gain visibility and make strategic contacts.
