In May 2018, the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot’s funded company Sensius won the first EBAN-EASME Scaleup of the Month. As the winner of the ePitch, Sensius was invited to pitch at the EBAN Winter Summit. Two weeks ago in Luxembourg at EBAN’s (the European Business Angel Network) Winter Summit, Sensius stole the show by winning the Pitching Contest.
The Winter Summit featured pitches from 40 startups representing 18 countries and broken down into four categories – Tech for Good, Fintech and Insurtech, Big Data and AI, and Scaleups. After a close competition, 4 finalists were chosen to pitch on the main stage by an expert jury of 27 angels and VCs. The entire audience at the Summit voted the companies via a live scoring tool and elected Sensius, a MedTech scaleup that fights cancer with thermotherapy, for the prize.
“We are very proud to win this price. It is a valuable recognition for us, while the entire conference was already very productive to get meaningful contacts with potential investors in Sensius.” highlighted Paul van den Biggelaar, Sensius CEO.
EBAN’s and EASME’s collaboration commenced with the May Scaleup of the Month webinar, featuring 6-minute pitches from each of the participating companies followed by feedback from the jury and the audience. This is an initiative for the best early-stage companies looking for follow-on rounds of investment to scale up their businesses. Companies that receive the highest scores each month win the title of “Scaleup of the Month”, which comes with increased visibility within the EBAN network, as well as complimentary passes and a pitching slot to one of EBAN’s flagship events – which was the case of Sensius, which had already co-won the EBAN-EASME Scaleup of the Month in May, and has won now the Pitching at the Winter Summit.
