    WEgate: join the online community for women entrepreneurs

     On 13 June, 80 stakeholders, policy-makers, civil society and women entrepreneurs met in Brussels for a workshop and networking meeting organised around the WEgate community.WEgate is an online platform that aims to support women entrepreneurs to start, build and grow their businesses, through peer-learning and community building. On the agenda for discussion were mentoring support schemes, coaching and access to finance.

    Habitat destruction and degradation over recent decades has left the fire-bellied toad extinct in parts of Lower Saxony, and other amphibians at risk. 300 planned new breeding ponds can help re-establish populations.

    2025 SMEs apply for funding under EIC SME Instrument

    The European Commission received 2025 proposals for the European Innovation Council pilot’s SME Instrument Phase 2 before the last cut-off date of the SME Instrument in this form on 5 June 2019. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 40 countries submitted proposals. Companies that pass the initial selection stage will be invited to Brussels, to pitch in front of a Jury of investors and business experts during the week of 8-12 July 2019.

    Funding for energy efficiency in 2020

    The last Work Programme for Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy under Horizon 2020 will be published on 2 July 2019. It is designed to facilitate a smooth transition to the future Horizon Europe and LIFE programmes. Two intervention areas "Buildings in energy transition" (B4E) and “Smart and clean energy for consumers” (EC) bring together 18 topics focusing on energy efficiency as a cornerstone of the energy transition.

    Life of trees: monitoring and modelling Poland's primeval forest

    Tools used by LIFE+ ForBioSensing PL are able to map single trees from the 22 million individuals in Poland’s Białowieża Forest. With this level of detail, the project can monitor changes to the forest structure and help better manage these precious landscapes.

    The SME Instrument becomes the EIC Accelerator, offering optional equity investment in addition to a grant. From today, innovative companies can apply for a grant of up to 17.5 million in combined grant and equity financing to scale-up quickly and effectively.

    LIFE on 2 wheels around Italy's Natura 2000 sites

    Getting out on a bike is a great way to see the world around you. Cyclists in Italy are on tour along routes set up by the project LIFE Sic2Sic. The tour runs through 170 of the country’s Natura 2000 sites, from Lake Fusine in the far north east all the way down to Sicily.
