This LIFE Peat Restore panel discussion will cover the phase-out of peat and the large-scale restoration of degraded peatlands as measures needed to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Representatives of government ministries from Germany, Latvia and Estonia, Naturschutzbund Deutschland’s president Jörg-Andreas Krüger and peatland expert Dr Hans Joosten will participate, along with Christian Holzleitner, Head of Unit, Land Use and Finance for Innovation, at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action. The discussion will address issues such as the current role of peatlands in climate mitigation policies and how this can be strengthened.

Afterwards, attendees can visit the LIFE Peat Restore photo exhibition – ‘Restoring Peatlands for Climate’ – showcasing the beauty of the northern European peatland landscapes, as well as restoration measures within the project.
