Bart Schelfhout works since 1999 in the Philips European Affairs Office, located in Brussels. Philips is one of the largest global diversified industrial companies, and a global leader in health and well-being, with sales in 2012 of EUR 24.8 billion


For five years now, he is responsible for EU Health policy affairs, dealing with issues in the areas of homecare, eHealth, healthcare system sustainability as well as medical device regulations. He is currently actively involved in the action group “integrated care” of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. He also is working in several EU trade associations in the field of medical technology.


Previously, he worked in the areas of environmental policy and the Information Society, looking after issues like management of electronic waste, as well as ICT standardisation.


He started his career working for a consultancy on the themes of energy policy and financial services.


Born in Oostende (Belgium) in 1972, he has a degree in Communication Sciences, obtained from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), a master in European Affairs from the Institut d’Etudes Européennes (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and a master in International Trade from the Solvay Business School in Brussels.


He is married with two daughters.
