Digital distribution of audiovisual content is cheaper and quicker than traditional distribution systems and allows authors and content-providers to reach new and larger audiences. This is a fast-developing market in Europe which will have a huge impact on the traditional content production and distribution structures.
Why is EU action needed? To promote the sector EU wide
European audiovisual markets are very fragmented, preventing market players from realizing economies of scale and becoming viable global competitors. Consumers often don't have a chance to see valuable TV programs or films originating across the border.
What will the European Commission do?

Report on the issue of digital distribution - based on the Audiovisual Green Paper (July 2011) and subsequent stakeholder consultation.
