The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (AMA) stimulates the interaction between knowledge and educational institutions, industry and regional authorities in order to encourage young people to follow a career in which ICT plays a key role; to develop educational tracks that match the requirements of the digital society; and to promote the acquisition of talent in ICT related jobs in the region. These actions overlap with the ambitions of the EU's Digital Agenda.
It is a long-term programme and aims at:
- by 2020 a 25% increase of the number of students studying ICT at all educational levels;
- more crossovers between ICT and other disciplines in educational tracks as care, finance and creative sector;
- active recruitment of ICT talent from external (European) countries.
Through this Pledge the region commits itself to execute these actions and to communicate its experiences within the European Union at large.
AMA will furthermore organize Amsterdam Metropolitan Solutions, a design contest for an applied technology institute in Amsterdam, to stimulate economic development and job creation in applied (information) technology. The contest is also open for organizations outside the Netherlands. The City of Amsterdam intends to invest €20-50mln in this institute.
