In the last couple of years the city has become a regional hub for start-up companies as a result of the operations of three early stage investment funds. The Commission has recognised the importance of the data economy in the Digital Single Market Strategy as a catalyst for economic growth. Under the third pillar of the DSM Strategy (‘‘Maximising the growth potential of the Digital Economy’’) the Commission is working on a "Building a European Data Economy" initiative to tackle the emerging challenges in the European Data Economy. In the context of the initiative “Building a European Data Economy”, the European Commission is examining restrictions to the free flow of data inside the EU and potential barriers to an efficient use and re-use of data across borders and across business sectors. The European Commission (DG CONNECT) organised a high-level conference with a view of obtaining insights from stakeholders in different business sectors, deepening its understanding on emerging business models and on challenges and opportunities of data-driven innovation. Since then, EU Member States and EFTA countries have made great progress in developing and implementing their strategies. This guide is updating the different steps, objectives and good practices of the original guide and analyses the status of NCSS in the European Union and EFTA area. The aim is to support EU Member States in their efforts to develop and update their NCSS. Read more
