Workshop's participants were asked to reflect and comment on concrete minimum IoT privacy and security principles to create a Trusted IoT environment. In addition, they had the chance to discuss the possible adequate tools and implementation mechanisms to ensure that innovation is not hampered by heavy procedures. Telepresence robots, distance controlled robots in which the robot’s 'face' is a video screen, are on the rise. They are already commercially available and can perform a range of functions. The TERESA project adds a vital dimension: social intelligence. Their robot can help relieve the isolation often faced by elderly or disabled people. Read more

The European Commission has proposed policy and legal solutions to unleash EU's data economy, as part of its Digital Single Market strategy presented in May 2015. The Commission is addressing this issue because the EU is currently not making the most of its data potential. To change that, it is necessary to address unjustified restrictions to the free movement of data across borders as well as several legal uncertainties. Read more

The Commission is proposing new legislation to ensure stronger privacy in electronic communications, while opening up new business opportunities. The measures presented today aim to update current rules, extending their scope to all electronic communication providers. They also aim to create new possibilities to process communication data and reinforce trust and security in the Digital Single Market – a key objective of the Digital Single Market strategy.
