As the impact of social media becomes more relevant, there is an increasing concern that social media —and also technology in general, and particularly Artificial Intelligence— might be replicating or even amplifying existing gender discrimination, prejudices and stereotypes. Identifying the causes might help preventing the negative impact of such technological developments. We have performed a test aimed at identifying possible areas of further research by trying to isolate the effect of the gender in the functioning of the recommendations algorithm. Read more

In its July 2106 Communication on Strengthening Europe's Cyber Resilience System, the European Commission has committed to develop a proposal for a European ICT security certification framework. As a follow-up on this commitment, the European Commission, together with the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security, is organising a consultation workshop with industry and experts from Member States. The finalists of the eHealth Competition for SMEs of 2017 are known. Among them are two SMEs resulting from the work of EU-funded projects: the Danish mHealth solution for mental health Monsenso, and the Eodyne tool for rehabilitation of neuromuscular diseases. While collecting evidence about what works and what doesn't, the NoHoW researchers have developed a weight loss maintenance toolkit consisting of mobile apps, web-based tools, smart scales, activity trackers etc. Read more
