The study highlights the economic benefits of cloud computing uptake and free flow of data within the European Union. The study shows that a Wider adoption of cloud services could add cumulative total revenue of EUR 449 billion to the EU28 GDP with significant impact on employment and business creation. Implementation of security certification and removal of data localisation requirements could increase benefits by EUR 19 billion between 2015 and 2020 (study reference: SMART 2014/0031). Read more

This study was conducted to support the Commission in gathering the evidence base needed to evaluate Directive 2002/58/EC on privacy and electronic communications and to assist the Commission in assessing a number of policy options, notably from an economic perspective. The study was performed with a view to collect fact and figures, as well as other relevant information, to be used by the Commission in the Regulatory Fitness and Performance Programme (REFIT) evaluation of the ePrivacy Directive and in the work of assessing the policy options that could lead to a possible legislative revision.
