In this one day workshop prior to FENS 2016, scientists from the Allen Institute for Brain Science and from the Human Brain Project will discuss early findings that have emerged from data mining and analysis of work performed through both organizations. The European Commission has found Italy's high-speed broadband plan, with a budget of about €4 billion, to be in line with EU state aid rules. The scheme will bring fast internet access to areas where it is currently not available, without unduly distorting competition. Read more
The European Commission and the European Investment Fund (EIF) launched a €121 million guarantee initiative to support SMEs in the cultural and creative sectors via financial institutions. This scheme is expected to create more than €600 million worth of bank loans over the next six years. Read more
Member States have been invited to reinforce their capacity to plan and implement broadband measures in ESIF programmes through Broadband Competence Offices (BCO) tailored to the regional and/or local situation. The European Commission is now planning to set up a Support Facility that will help BCOs share their experiences in a European network. Deadline for submitting applications is 12 September. Read more
From 1st July, people, businesses and public administrations will be able to carry out convenient, secure and legally valid electronic transactions across borders. EU rules on electronic signatures, electronic seals, time stamps, electronic delivery service and website authentication, as well as electronic documents apply directly across the 28 Member States. For example, an electronic signature will be recognised in the same way as a written one, across the EU. Cross-border digital transactions will be more convenient and more secure in a Digital Single Market. Read more
On 1 July 2016, the new rules on trust services under the eIDAS Regulation will come into effect in the 28 EU Member States repealing the 15 year-old eSignature Directive and modernising the legal framework for trust services.
This will be a turning point in the eIDAS journey and another big milestone towards a Digital Single Market. Read more
