On 19 May 2017, Roberto Viola, Director-General of Communications Networks, Content and Technology and Edgar Olvera Jiménez, Undersecretary of Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Transport co-chaired the first dialogue on the digital economy between the EU and Mexico. The wide-ranging discussion noted the importance of Mexico's reforms for developing a competitive market, where European telecom companies and equipment providers are actively involved. They also agreed to pursue discussions on connectivity and infrastructure investment.
