Brain research in Europe needs a decisive effort. We must invest more, define clearer and more innovative research and healthcare strategies, and better coordinate national efforts.
The European Commission therefore decided to make May 2013 the European Month of the Brain - a full month packed with events and activities to make decision-makers, stakeholders, the media and the public aware of the successes achieved and the challenges still laying ahead for brain research.
The brain is the most complex machine we know of and the most mysterious one. That is why part of our research focuses on the brain as a system, not simply as an organ. Studying the brain is a huge challenge; simulating a complete human brain on a super computer will revolutionise the way we do computing today. Have a look at these three examples.
