More than 300 participants took part to the 1st European Conference on the Future Internet held on 2&3 April 2014 in Brussels to discuss how Europe can achieve global leadership in ICT by 2020.

The event presented cutting-edge research results on the European Internet infrastructures and services of the future, which have been developed in the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP), European programme for Internet-enabled innovation aiming to accelerate the development and adoption of Future Internet technologies in Europe. In this context, industry stakeholders, including SMEs, and policy makers discussed central socio-economic and technological topics of Future Internet infrastructures and services in Europe.

VP Neelie Kroes addressed a video message to all participants.

ECFI hosted 12 sessions (including a panel discussion, 4 parallel sessions and a final plenary) in which high-level speakers faced different crucial issues concerning the Future Internet and Internet-driven innovation in Europe. Simultaneously, the exhibition showcased some major FI-PPP results from the Technology Foundation FI-WARE and the infrastructure/capacity-building project XIFI as well as by the five use case projects.

Participants had the opportunity of experience cutting-edge demos from the Future Internet PPP projects and get first-hand insights from the people who shape the Internet of the future. Above all, ECFI Brussels was an excellent occasion for networking between representatives from leading European organisations in the ICT domain.

The event was also an occasion for young entrepeneurs and developers to show how they implemented the FI-WARE technology to develop their innovative ideas. At this purpose, on day 2 Christoph Müller-Dechent delivered a presentation on FoodLoop (Winner of FI-WARE's SmartBusinnes prize), an application developed to minimaze food waste in retail stores. During the same session, Jeronimo Tocado gave a clear demostration on how the app Smartaxi (runner-up of FI-WARE's SmartBusinnes prize) will easier urban mobility.

The second edition of ECFI will take place on 17-18 September 2014 in Munich, Germany. Save the dates and be an actor in the change!
