The EU works with the USA and Japan to better understand how each manages its ICT research applied to transport.

The EU is cooperating with the United States of America and Japan to learn about each others' research and deployment activities in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and to benefit from harmonised approaches, e.g. in the field of safety applications or road automation. Particular focus is on Cooperative Systems, where vehicles communicate with each other and with the infrastructure. Here, in this relatively new field of Cooperative Systems, it is the explicit objective of the three partners to jointly develop proposals for global standards. Joint research efforts are on the agenda as well.
