Girls in ICT Day 2016
On 25 and 26 April 2016 almost 400 participants will gather in Brussels to take part in the 1st European Celebration of Women in Computing (ECWC).
ECWC 2016 is based on the model of the highly successful Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing in the United States. The event is organised by the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT) under the patronage of the European Commission. This is an opportunity for women to share experiences, network and learn. IT companies can see how to innovate through good practices of gendered innovation, diversity and inclusion, and balanced leadership.
Also, the award ceremony for ECWC 2016 winners will take place during the conference.
On 30 April in Brussels the Digital Leadership Institute will carry out its first-ever Digital Muse Girl Tech Fest, an event that aims to inspire 250 girls, ages 11 to 15 years, to explore the worlds of digital technology, science, and the arts-including music.
Girls in ICT Day 2013
On 25 April 2013, Brussels hosted one of the "Girls in ICT" events, co-organised by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the ITU.
As part of the event , the European Parliament hosted a debate on Women in ICT, dealing with women in ICT careers and with skills development. Key parts of the discussion included: the stereotypical portrayal of girls and women in the media, industry's responsibility for driving the change in the ICT sector, digital skills, and the business case for getting more women to work in ICT.
