After graduation as a system engineer in 1995, he received his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Department from Istanbul Technical University in 2003. He designed and produced a smart robotic hand (ITUHand) using NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) based solid state actuator and sensor systems in his Master’s degree at ITU. He received his PhD in Material Engineering from Yildiz Technical University. During his PhD, he produced NiTi SMA components for robotics joints using vacuum arc/induction melting techniques. He also worked on the mechanical characterization of the produced NiTi SMAs. After his PhD, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering in 2010. During his postdoctoral fellowship at UIUC (USA), he focused on the mechanical behavior of NiTi based SMAs.
He worked on a NASA funded project (NASA`s Subsonic Fixed Wing Program – NNX11AI57A) between 2012-2014 as a Research Associate at the University of Akron, OH (USA). He worked on the additively manufactured polymer embedded NiTi SMA robotic finger and AM based soft inflatable actuators projects. He is currently working on additively manufactured soft robotics actuator systems in Mechatronics Engineering Department at Istanbul Gedik University. He is also Director of Robot Technology Research and Application Center at Istanbul Gedik University.
