Chair of the Board of Commissioners at the Dutch Media Authority
Commissariaat voor de Media / Dutch Media Authority - Netherlands

Madeleine de Cock Buning's research and lectures focus on the regulation and governance of digital disruptive technology in the media.

In her work on topics such as the amplification of disinformation through digital platforms, intellectual property and autonomous creation, the protection of minors against harmful content online, she aims at future proof and – given the fundamental rights at stake - well balanced multi-dimensional approaches.

In 2018 Dr. Prof. de Cock Buning is appointed as part-time professor of Digital Politics, Economy and Societies at the School of Transnational Governance (STG) of the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. Since 2007, she holds the position of chaired professor at the Faculty of Law, Economy, and Governance (UU), in the Netherlands with a chair in Intellectual Property.

De Cock Buning is chair of the EU High-Level Expert Group on fake news and disinformation established by the European Commission in 2018. She is arbitrator at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO/UN), Honorary Justice to the Court of Appeal in The Hague, and chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Regulatory Authority to the Media in the Netherlands.
