Paving the EOSC path through Value and Challenges
Room L7, 06/12/2018 (09:00-09:45)
The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is one of the flagship projects funded by the commission with the goal of breaking down research barriers, maximising investment, and helping drive a transformative digital economy across Europe. Its goal is to provide seamless access to open data and supporting services for storage and analysis by bringing together existing infrastructures, across nations and disciplines, to allow Europe’s 1.7M researchers, 70M professionals in science and technology and businesses to leverage this investment. Over the next years it will provide a common environment to foster cross disciplinary research leading to novel discoveries and help the digital economy by allowing SMEs to become more engaged in the research process.
The EOSCpilot project is the first phase of the realisation of the vision and has brought together 15 high profile Science Demonstrators based on real life use cases to make use of existing services. This session brings together a sample of these SD’s to discuss their motivation for investing in this early phase of the evolution of the EOSC , discuss what worked well for them and how they see the future evolution of this investment in the future of both research and business.
The session is open to all users who are interested in how EOSC and its services are developing, including representatives from e-infrastructures, Service Providers, Academic Institutions, SMEs & industries, Policy and Research Funding Bodies.
