"Creating Global Acceptance for European Trust Services"
Room L1, 05/12/2018 (17:30-18:15)
To develop actions for global acceptance of eIDAS Trust Services, expanding the capacity enabling the Digital Single Market in Europe and beyond.
Under the eIDAS Regulation, there is no direct obligation for the private sector, including the browser vendors from US and China, to use or rely upon qualified certificates for website authentication (or any other trust service), unless other legal acts impose it. However, the EU Member States and the Commission see a key role for eIDAS in realizing and unleashing the potential of the Digital Single Market. For example, high expectations about operationalizing and facilitating the widespread and convenient use of qualified certificates for website authentication will bring value to citizens, businesses and public administrations.
Participants in the prosed workshop would develop and rank potential steps forward for global acceptance of eIDAS Trust Services, enabling the digital single market in Europe and beyond.
