He has been with the European Commission DG XIII, then DG Information Society and Media, now DG CONNECT, since September 1996. He became Principal Scientific Officer in 2005.
He worked in the areas of Mobile and Personal Communications and Broadband for All, moving in 2005 to the area of ICT for Sustainable Growth, with a focus on Energy Efficiency and Emergency and Disaster Management. In 2007 he moved to the area of Embedded Systems and Control, where he was responsible for the areas of Wireless Sensor Networks and Cooperating Objects and Complex Systems Engineering.
In 2011 he moved to the area of Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE), under Experimental Platforms in DG CONNECT, where he was involved in programme definition and was responsible for policy issues including IPv6.
In July 2016 he moved to the unit of Future Connectivity in the Directorate Future Networks, where he is responsible for Automotive/Vehicular Networks, Spectrum/Cognitive Radio, Testing and Validation/Experimentation, and Beyond 5G.
He is responsible for EU-Brazil Cooperation in ICT, and namely for the EU-Brazil Coordinated Calls.
