Henri Werij obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics at Leiden University. After spending several years at other universities (Boulder, Amsterdam), he joined the Dutch research organisation TNO. Here he held several positions in fields like space instrumentation and semiconductor equipment. Before joining TU Delft, he was director of Space and Scientific Instrumentation at TNO. In June 2017, he returned to academia, taking the position of Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Together with a scientific staff of more than 100 professors in aerospace engineering, he aims to vastly accelerate the transition towards truly sustainable aviation. Interdisciplinary world-class research, international collaboration and excellent education for the many highly motivated students at the faculty are the cornerstones of his policy.
