Fraunhofer Gesellschaft - Germany
Kerstin Funck studied mechanical engineering in Aachen. After finishing her master thesis, she worked as a scientific assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Aachen. Her technical focus was in the field of camera-based process monitoring for a large number of laser material processes. After relocating to the Chair of Laser Application Technology at the Ruhr University Bochum, she took over the leadership of the Thin-film Processing Group. In 2015, she moved her family base to Berlin. Here she took a position as Innovation Manager Production at the office of economic development. In this position she gained a broad insight into the issues of digital transformation in both medium-sized and large companies. Today Kerstin is part of the Corporate Think Tank at the Fraunhofer Headquaters. She coordinates one out of seven Key Strategic Initiatives of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the Biological Transformation. Here interdisciplinary expertise across institutes in diverse technical fields is merged centrally.
