Biography

In March 2015, the ITER Council appointed Bernard Bigot as Director-General of the ITER Organisation. Dr Bigot has been associated with ITER since Europe’s bid to host the Project in 2003. His lifelong commitment to sustainable energy is reflected in a distinguished career in research, higher education and government.
From 1983 to 2003, he was University professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and, from 2003 to 2015, Director-General of CEA, the largest science and technology research institution in France. Dr Bigot was the High French Representative for the realisation of ITER.
He is a Commander in the French Order of the Legion of Honour and an Officer in the French Order of National Merit. In 2014, he received the Gold and Silver Star in the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun.
