Marina Koussathana brings high-level experience on food and health policies. She is currently policy analyst at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), following up health and food policy and research developments and the JRC activities in collaboration with the DG for Health and Food Safety (SANTE). Previously, she was scientific officer at the European Food Safety Authority (2013-2017) supporting the cooperation on food safety and risk assessment between the Authority and EU Member States, EU Agencies and International Organisations.
From 2009 to 2012 she joined the European Commission DG SANTE as policy officer on public health, preparedness in health and EU nutrition policy. Prior joining the European Institutions, she was Deputy Director and Head of the Official Controls Unit at the Hellenic Food Authority Western Greece Directorate (2004-2009).
She also brings high-level academic and research experience, as tutor on environmental impact assessment and sustainable development at the Hellenic Open University (2000-2014); and researcher at the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Medicine, University of Patras (1989-1999).
She graduated from the National Technical University of Athens in 1989 and holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Patras University. She has published in the fields of chemical engineering, sustainable development and EU policies.
