Biography

Christine Berling is Head of European and International Affairs at the Directorate General for Health, Ministry of Solidarity and Health, France.
Previously, she was Head of Global Health Programs Department at the National Cancer Institute (INCa) where she developed INCa’s portfolio of international and European projects and networks. She also worked at the European Commission, DG RTD Health Directorate, on the setting up of the Innovative Medicine Initiative Joint Undertaking, a public-private partnership between the European Commission and the European Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry Associations.
Christine has over 15 years’ experience of working in public-private partnership and technology licensing. She served as Deputy Director of the Technology Licensing Department of INSERM – the French National Institute of Health. Throughout her career, she has served as Board member of various French Health agencies and as an ad-hoc reviewer for granting agencies, for the Belgian Ministry of Research and Technology, the French Court of Justice on litigation cases and with the European Commission. She currently represents France's health authorities at the European steering group on health promotion and prevention established by the European Commission pursuant to the Commission Decision of July 2018. Christine held a counsel position with the General Secretary Office of the French Institute for Development Research.
She received a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Paris and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cambridge, UK.
