The EU funded NYMPH-MD pre-commercial procurement helped the Danish start-up to bring to the market a mobile ehealth solution that supports mental care providers in the treatment of stress, depressions and bipolar disorders. Since this project, the company increased revenues, doubled its workforce, had a very successful IPO on NASDAQ First North Copenhagen and struck a deal with a major pharma company. Monsenso’s mHealth solution is also used in the efforts made towards curbing increased COVID-19 unemployment rates by helping people with stress and depression in getting back to work faster.

Given the global situation the World is facing these days due to the coronavirus pandemic, many governments, companies and citizen movements have developed mHealth initiatives to keep the population informed and help manage the crisis situation. A non-exhaustive compilation of some initiatives developed at European level has been created by the EU-funded mHealth Hub project.

People with arrhythmias (irregular heart beat) are a particularly vulnerable group. In the EU-funded STOPandGO project, Barcelona hospital Sant Pau procured an innovative solution to improve the quality of services for patients, reducing the number of hospital visits while ensuring better remote care services. This approach is now replicated across other hospitals in Spain and beyond.

Researchers with the EU-funded THALEA II project are pushing an innovative telemedicine system for Intensive Care Units (ICUs) to market using a process called public procurement of innovative solutions. Assisted by ICT for Life, this project is saving co-morbid patients in Europe as part of a Patient personalised care program of the EU.

Technological innovation can play an important role in strengthening people-centred healthcare delivery. An EU-funded project collaborated with Ministries of Health to co-design and validate an electronic platform to enhance patient diagnosis and treatment in resource-constrained environments.

As part of the EU-funded MyCyFAPP project, 160 children with cystic fibrosis (a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine) have used a mobile app to manage their disease. This reduced their gastrointestinal symptoms and their worries about suffering pain or other abdominal discomforts, and it made them more independent.

The Slovenian company Saving, with the help of a Digital Innovation Hub, has created a light, affordable and non-intrusive wearable device to improve monitoring of patients that suffer from cardiac diseases.

Porto4Ageing, a Reference Site and partner of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, has updated the mobile app which enables you to check how frail you are. The app is now available in English, Portuguese and Italian.
