The Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) is bringing together the knowledge of researchers from 24 countries to create a pan-European supercomputing infrastructure. PRACE will show a a supercomputer at the Tallinn Digital Summit which is so small that it fits into a handbag.

The project DE-Enigma aims to empower autistic children through playful interaction with a humanoid robot. At the Tallinn Digital Summit 2017, the project will present their first humanoid robot prototype called Zeno.

The EU FP7 project COMBO has successfully accomplished a demonstration of fixed mobile network integration and is ready to share the results online.

The project LEXNET, partially funded by the European Commission between 2012 and 2015, has concentrated its efforts on the development of effective mechanisms to reduce 50%, at least, of the public exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) without compromising the quality of service. This project replies to the public concern about the hypothetical health risks resulting from the devices which use EMF and radiofrequency (RF).

Today's mobile networks need to be fast. Speed is not only necessary between the radio towers and the users' smartphones, tablets or laptops… the radio towers must also have a fast connection to the internet and the network's backbone (backhaul link), otherwise they become a bottleneck and cannot receive and re-transmit the videos or music the users wish to watch or listen to. Ideally, the thousands of radio towers/rooftop antennas would be connected via fibre optic cables. Since that is not always possible, the E3Network-project is working on higher speeds even for those towers that cannot be connected by fibre.

Mobile data traffic is expected to grow hundred- or thousand-fold by 2020, when the new 5G telecoms standards are due to enter the market. As the race is on to come up with new solutions for telecoms networks to accommodate this massive growth, one EU research project has already developed an ultra-fast solution using optical transmission technology.

As the number and variety of smartphones and other connected devices keeps growing, the need for radio spectrum grows with it. Cognitive radio technology developed under the EU-funded QOSMOS project could help meet these needs while controlling telecom costs, improving service and driving the development of new markets.
