The European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) is an annual educational and networking event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. Experts in regional and local development can exchange good practices in economic development and social inclusion, cross-border cooperation, public-private partnerships, regional innovation and community-led local development.
During its four days, the EWRC welcomes some 6.000 participants each year for more than 100 workshops and debates, exhibitions and networking opportunities. This year, the EWRC will focus on three sub-themes:
- Building resilient regions and cities
- Regions and cities as change agents
- Sharing knowledge to deliver results
The European Covenant on Demographic Change and the European Commission supported SEED project are organising a workshop on Silver Economy entitled "An alternative for the future: Silver Economy for cities and regions" on 10 October 2017 from 14:30 to 17:00. This workshop will take its participants through four inspiring examples of how a Silver Economy can help regions and cities to better match the needs of their ageing population while supporting local businesses and solution providers. It will be the opportunity to discuss the complementarity between these examples and the initiatives at EU level. A networking session will be following the workshop.
Registration to the European Week of Regions and Cities will open in July 2017, with free admission.
