The new online monitoring tool called MAFEIP, financed by the European Commission, can be used for decision-making by public and industry stakeholders investing in innovative solutions for health and care. You can learn how it works on 11 May during eHealth Week in Malta.

The online MAFEIP tool estimates the health and economic outcomes of your social and technological innovations in the health and care sector relative to current care. Examples of innovative interventions include new care pathways, devices, surgical techniques and organisational models.

The MAFEIP tool is based on an analytical decision model, specifically a Markov model with three health states, that allows to be adapted to different types of interventions and makes it possible to estimate the health and economic outcomes that result from implementing such interventions with respect to standard care. Therefore, MAFEIP provides an early assessment of the likelihood that the interventions will achieve the expected impact and also helps to identify what drives interventions’ effectiveness or efficiency.

This supports evidence-based decision-making for all institutions and users in health and care.


The purpose of the workshop (14:00-15:00 CET on 11 May) is twofold: 1) to give a brief introduction of the MAFEIP study and the theory underlying the MAFEIP model and, 2) to train the attendees in the use of the tool through practical case studies.

  • Utilization of the MAFEIP tool to perform cost-utility analysis
  • Interpretation of the results
