Náměšť na Hané is a town located in the heart of the Olomouc region, in the Eastern part of Czechia. The municipality is one of the 170 Czech winners of the first WiFi4EU Call and is now proudly offering high-speed free Wi-Fi access to citizens and tourists. The EUR 15,000 WiFi4EU voucher came as a perfect opportunity to promote the cultural heritage in the area through enhanced connectivity and e-services.
Not far from the city of Brno, Náměšť na Hané is a gem of the Olomouc district and is famous for its homonymous romantic castle. The château, built in classicist baroque style in 1766, is home to various events attracting tourists and citizens of all ages. Curious to know more about the municipality’s plans to leverage the voucher to boost tourism, the WiFi4EU team got in touch with Mayor Marta Husičková.
To improve the experience for visitors and citizens of Náměšť na Hané, Mayor Husičková and the Local Council have developed a digital strategy that focuses on broadband, Wi-Fi and a vast array of e-services. As part of the new strategy, the municipality has launched V OBRAZE, a mobile application that provides an overview of the news, events and interest points of Náměšť na Hané.
The app V OBRAZE is now easily accessible through the European Commission funded Wi-Fi network available across the municipality. The WiFi4EU network in Náměšť na Hané was launched on 28 July 2019 and citizens were informed through the official newsletter and Facebook page. With more than 500 users per week, the population seems to appreciate free public Wi-Fi access.
The location of the WiFi4EU hotspots has been carefully chosen to serve both citizens and tourists, and to “create opportunities for students and young entrepreneurs”, explained Mayor Husičková. The hotspots cover the castle court, the main square, the town hall and the sport facilities near the school.
Satisfied and proud to be part of the WiFi4EU Community, the municipality of Náměšť na Hané is now keen to encourage municipalities across Europe to apply to the next upcoming WiFi4EU call. “The European Union is reaching closer to European citizens thanks to the WiFi4EU project”, said Mayor Marta Husičková.
