The amendment includes the definition of the activities to be financed in 2017 in addition to the activities already foreseen for the Digital Service Infrastructures. In particular, the 2017 Work Programme will support the following actions related to the WiFi4EU initiative:
- The first call to select the local wireless connectivity applications, including the call's conditions;
- The IT developments for the WiFi4EU portal and other preparatory measures for setting up the voucher scheme at EU level;
- A new Digital Service Infrastructure to support the WiFi4EU Single Authentication and Authorisation & Remote Monitoring System
The 2017 Work Programme for CEF Telecom outlines the general objectives and the priorities for actions to be launched in 2017, and explains how these can be tangibly achieved through the selected digital service infrastructures.
The WiFi4EU initiative will enable public sector bodies to provide free, high capacity local wireless connectivity in public spaces. The scheme will provide financial incentives in a simple, user-friendly and effective way directly to local communities. The first call for proposals will be directed to municipalities or associations formed by municipalities.
