WEAR Sustain is a 2 year, €3m project, funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 research and innovation initiative to engage art, design and creative industries to work more closely with technology and engineering industries.

Over the next two years the WEAR Sustain program will bring together the rich European landscape of wearable technology and smart textile stakeholders toward addressing core ethical and sustainability issues head on at the research & development stages.

WEAR Sustain seeks artists, designers and creative people of all forms to work with technologists to develop critical approach to design an ethical, sustainable, environmental, and aesthetic wearable device or smart/e-textiles project.

The project has planned two Europe-wide competitions in April 2017 and October 2017, to support creative and technology collaboration for the development of critical, ethical, sustainable and aesthetic Next Generation wearable technologies, and/or smart/electronic textiles.

The first 23 projects funded through the WEAR Sustain first Open Call which took place in spring 2017. The program is seeking applications from creatives, such as artists or designers, to collaborate with technologists or engineers. The project aims to support strong, well developed project ideas and take prototypes to the next level.

A total fund of €2.4m will be made available over two years, to fund 48 teams. Projects will receive support and input from mentors, experts and hubs to help realise ideas, and promote developed prototypes.

A series of events will take place across Europe during the project’s Calls.
